Ithaca?

I recently took a short vacation (like one day kind of short) in Ithaca. To be honest, I don't like the town of Ithaca very much. It is, well, bleak. Some may call it quiet and peaceful, but I think it is rather dull. I think dead may be a better word. Doesn't anyone in that town talk above a whisper or move faster than a snail? The most lively person I saw is a statue. The only cheerful part around Ithaca is a college campus that make you feel as if you just stepped into a story book. The blossoming trees and green grass surrounding stone and brick buildings under the sun are beautiful. In conclusion, like any town, there are ups and downs in Ithaca.

The sky is really blue...

Swan Lake

I don't consider myself the biggest fan of music. There exists a few good pieces that I like or use as space filler, but my iPod is basically a dust-attractor. But if I have to choose a genre of music that I like, then I would pick classical music. Strange? Some people tell me "yes, it's strange that you like classical music." Okay, so classical music is not the most popular music around anymore, but I think that, in general, classical music is definitely the best music around. After all, somethings do not stay around for centuries unless people see great value in them. Not long ago, Google features a doodle tribute to Tchaikovsky depicting a scene from a ballet. A spark went off in my head! One of my favorite band is 12 Girls Band (女子十二楽坊), which consists of...12 girls. They are a Chinese music group performing instrumental music on traditional Chinese instruments. Aside from traditional Chinese music, they also play western music and popular songs. Thus, the connection to Tchaikovsky is formed.

May I present: the 12 Girls Band performing Tchaikovsky's Swan Lake!

Sketch of Fancy

I really want to be on a drawing spree, I really do. However, there are still a few things that I must take care of before I can do so (this blog is one of them). I did start a couple of projects that I WILL finish, and here is one of them. It is a work in progress. The original picture is a photograph of a cosplayer (someone who dresses up like an anime/manga character) posed as Yoite from Nabari no Ou. Cosplayers basically bring a character from the paper into the real world. Thus, I want to take the character back to paper.

Original

My work in progress done in color pencil

I shall continue this and post the finished product. I hope that will happen soon.

Oh, Rainy Days...

It has been raining for the last few days (with days of intense sunlight and heat in between), which remained me of a post from some times ago. In that post, I introduced a song about the rain (or was it rainbows?). Either way, these rainy days drew me back to a piece of music that I have not listened to for some time. So, I pulled up YouTube and played this beautiful piece called "Kiss the Rain," by the Korean composer and pianist Yiruma. Words cannot describe the perfect tranquility of this sound. Thus, rather than I ramble on about it, just listen to the sound of rain.

Pottery

Recently, I had my first encounter with pottery making. While messy (clay, clay everywhere), it was quite enjoyable. Of course, as an inexperienced novice, making objects on the wheel was (still is) quite challenging. During that short time of pottery making, I gained a new hobby: watching other people make potteries. Surprisingly, it was very soothing (I thought it was going to be dull), especially when I am watching experts at work. Thus, I search YouTube (it seems I'm on there all the time) for master potters. I was not disappointed and below are two clips. One is of the legendary pottery maker Hamada Shoji and the other is a more recent clip of someone making a teapot (it inspired me to make a tiny, hand-sculpted tea set).

I can't stop watching; must see more. I wish I had more time with pottery making, then again, don't we all wish we had more time with one thing or another.

Duck, Duck, and More Ducks!

Courtesy of http://www.schemamag.ca/archive2/images/pekingduck1.jpg
(Ironically, this is from an article about the UK banning the oven for cooking the ducks.
No oven = no ducks)

My favorite dish award goes to the best dish on Earth: the Peking Duck (北京烤鸭). This centuries old dish originated from imperial times in China and remains a favorite today, for good reasons too. Premium duck roasted over a live flame creates the perfectly crispy skin and juice meat. After it leaves the oven, the duck is skillfully cut into thin slices with skin and meat. It is eaten with thin pancakes (more like paper thin flat breads), spring onions, and hoisin sauce. The best place to enjoy this dish is, of course, in its native home in Beijing (used to be called Peking, hence Peking Duck). Two restaurants famous for their delicious duck are Quanjude and Bianyifang, so be sure to visit if you are ever in Beijing. You won't be disappointed. Yummy!!

Yoshinoya Yumminess!!

Courtesy of www.yoshinoya.com

One of the best fast food restaurants is Yoshinoya. No, I lied, it is the best. Yoshinoya (吉野家) is one of the leading Japanese fast food chains. Established in 1899, Yoshinoya has won the hearts of many consumers with its gyudon, or beef bowl (pictured above). It offers convenient, healthy (compared to restaurants like McDonald's), and, most importantly, delicious food at a low price. If one is lucky enough to find a Yoshinoya restaurant, stop in and enjoy the experience.

Fun(ny) Song

This has to be one the funnest songs ever. Titled "Hare Hare Yukai," this song hails from the most random-filled anime, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. One must admire the many ways that people use animation technology. This catchy song comes complete with its very own set of dance moves, so grab some friends and take up the challenge of dancing the "Hare Hare Yukai" dance!!!

Tried it yet? Tired yet? This could make for a fun workout.

Happy, but Sad, and Kind of Confused

From left to right: Sam, Lucifer (in Nick's body), and Dean

First of all, this post may contain spoilers. So you have been warned.

Couple posts ago, I wrote about my excitement and expectations for the season finale of Supernatural. And the dramatic conclusion is...AWESOME!!!!! This episode has met my every expectation, which does not happen very often. I was so happy with the direction that this episode took and was saddened by the apparent end. However, the masterminds of the show really threw me for a loop. Warning; starting here are spoilers and possible confusion for non-followers of the show.

Sam said "yes" to Lucifer (but he and Dean have a plan to beat the Devil), which means that Lucifer can now walk freely on Earth by "wearing" Sam as a suit. However, plot twist ensures, as Dean and Sam discover that their surprise, clever plan to put Lucifer in his cage was not a surprise. Lucifer knew what they were scheming. Then Adam, the long lost Winchester brother, shows up as the Archangel Michael and prepares to fight with his brother, Lucifer/Sam. At the last moment Dean shows up to save Sam. Before he was able to do so, Dean was severely beaten by Lucifer/Sam. After that heart-gripping fight, Sam comes to his senses and overcomes Lucifer's control. As Sam/Lucifer jumps into the Devil's eternal prison, with Michael in tow too, Dean is left all alone (Cas and Bobby were with him, but Lucifer killed they). It was the saddest scene I have seen on television. Then, comes the pile of new questions (hint for Season 6?!). Cas is miraculous brought back to life with all of his angel powers. But who brought him back? God? That leads to the next question: who is God? By the very end of the episode, it seems that the prophet Chuck is the likely candidate (previously "normal human" who sees the plans of Heaven suddenly disappears in a puff of smoke). And Sam is shown to be standing outside Dean's "new home." How did he get out of the eternal prison?

After all that emotional roller-coaster, I must say, I cannot wait for Season 6.

Pencils (But of What Kind?)

I recently searched local store for pencils after I lost my last mechanical pencil to the unkown. For starters, I'm a mechanical pencil person, and I have not used a wooden pencil for writing (I use it for art) since elementary school. At the store, my eyes were immediately drawn to a colorful pack of what looked like regular wooden pencils. However, upon close inspection I saw that they were, in reality, mechanical pencils. Delighted, I brought them in a colorful pack of 28.

Kind of Sad

Tonight the season finale of Supernatural, my current favorite TV show, will air. I am excited to see what is going to happen and I just cannot wait!!! However, this episode, being the last episode of this season, is making me sad. I just found this great show in the middle of this season and now it is over (sad face). This episode is supposed to sum up and answer the accumulating amount of question starting from Season 4 (it is currently on Season 5). What is going to happen to the Winchester brothers? And Castiel (or Cas for short, but Castiel sound cooler)? It he going to return to Heaven (Cas is/was, and I quote, "an angel of the lord")? But the big question is, how is Team Freewill (Winchester brothers, Cas, and Bobby) going to stop the Apocalypse? So many questions...are they going to be able to answer them all in 45minutes (I know the show is one hour long on TV, but the amount of commercials on TV nowadays is ridiculous). I have high hopes for this episode, and I hope the writers will bring this season to a great ending. I hope I don't cry.

Fictional Character

One thing led to another and I invented a fictional character complete with an imaginary biography. And now, I proudly present to you:

Mai-chan

Fictional Character Biography:

Mai-chan here is a sixteen years old high school freshman, who enjoys drawing in her spare time. Her favorite color is blue, and maybe purple. She likes to play tennis on Sundays with Tama, her cat.

I have no clue what I am talking about. How does one play tennis with a cat anyway? This is just a simple exercise for me in Photoshop, the skin color looks kind of off here even though it looked alright on PS. How odd.

Replicating Life

Courtesy of howstuffworks.com

How does our genetic information replicate? I seems these day that one's DNA could be obtain from just about every inch of a person's body, according to police procedural show. But are shows like CSI and Law & Order correct? Well, they are most of the time. The human body consists of countless number of cells, and each of these cells (most of them anyway, curiously red blood cells do not contain DNA) contains a person's complete genetic information. Now, how does DNA get into each one of these cells? During mitosis (the division of cells), one parent cell replicates its DNA and then split into two daughter cells. DNA replication begin with the unwinding of the double helix. The base pairs (the step-like structures depicted on the picture above with the letters on them) separate and complementary bases pair up to form two new double-stranded DNA's, each with one strand from the parent and one newly formed strand. Fascinating, isn't it?

Still Doll

This a a cute (in the slightly dark way) little song. It is the ending theme to the popular anime series Vampire Knight. Based on the manga of the same name, vampire is a vampire high school romance story. However, it is distinctly different from the Twilight series that plague the western world. Still Doll manages to capture the feel of the anime and will leave the viewer looking forward to the next episode. My favorite part of the song has to be the cello solo, also performed by the singer. In my personal opinion, Kanon is a better cellist than she is a singer.

I do like drawing, and here is one of mine. It took such a long time to finish this picture but the end result is worth it. Depicted below are a roller skate and a viewfinder(?).

Song Yuki no Hana

My random searches on YouTube has led me into the presence many good songs. Today, I want to share with you a song that resulted from two of my most popular search keywords; "hana" and "yuki." The song is called "Yuki no Hana." I think that this song is very popular in Asia because I have found in in Japanese, Korean, and Chinese (listed in the order that I found them, which also happens to be the order that I like them from most to least).

Up first is the Japanese version.

Next is the Korean version.

Finally, the Chinese version.

Which one is your favorite?

Song Hana...

One way that I pass the time with is searching for random Asian songs on YouTube. About 50% of the time, I can actually find some pretty decent songs. I conduct my search by typing in a keyword and just leave the rest to YouTube. For example, I often type "," which means flower in both Chinese and Japanese, in the search box, and viola, pages upon page of songs containing the word "" appear before my eyes. "" is one of my most used words because a lot of Asian songs mention flowers in one way or another. Most of the time, the songs are very nice. But once in a while, some strange songs turn up. Okay, let's start with a nice one.

Title: Hana
Singer: Natsukawa Rimi

Title: Hana (not the same song from above)
Singer: Atari Kousuke

Title: Qing Hua Ci
Singer: Jay Chou

Now, time for a weird one, called "Boku no Hana." This song is not strange in itself. What is slightly odd, and maybe creepy, about this song is the movie that it is in. "Boku no Hana" is from the Japanese movie called The Infectious Song, and "Boku no Hana" is the title infectious song. Why infectious? Well, the song is nice and simple, and very catchy. Unfortunately, in the movie exists an urban legend that is one sings this song, one will commit   suicide (don't worry the legend is NOT true). I never saw the movie, so I don't what happened in the end. I only know that this song is hauntingly (maybe I shouldn't use this word) beautiful.
"Boku no Hana" is posted below, but if you are frightened by these kind of things, please DO NOT listen to it. If not, you can listen to it below (once again, the legend from the movie is...well, a legend from a movie, people on YouTube have posted themselves singing this and they are alright). You have been warned.

Kodomo no Hi

こどもの日 (kodomo no hi), or Childern's Day, is celebrated in Japan every year on May 5th. On this day, koinobori fly in the wind, which represents the boys in the household. These  wind socks are said to bring good fortune to the children. It is originally boy's day (called Tango no Sekku, much like Hinamori is girl's day), but now it is a celebration for all children. While dolls are the symbols for Hinamori, koi are the symbol for this holiday because they represent strength (koi are known to swim up waterfalls).

To all the children out there, happy Children's Day!!!

Koi in the Wind

Courtesy of Wikipedia

On May 5th in Japan this year, one can appreciate the strange view of koi (carp) flying against the blue sky. How exactly does a fish fly? Well, they don't, at least not the real ones. These flying koi are actually wind socks flown up high to celebrate Children's Day in Japan. They are made out of paper, cloth or other fabric with carp patterns painted on.

Called koinobori (鯉幟), a set consists of a pair of arrow-poked wheels, flying-dragon streamers (top picture: the multi-colored wind sock at the top), a black koinobori and a red koinobori. Additional koinobori are added if more boys are in the household.

Cute, isn't it?

Case #1c: Aww...Cute Bear

"Please, sit," offered Miss Line pleasantly.

Somehow, that perpetual smile of hers is slightly unnerving. Thought the detective silently. "Thank you Miss Line."

They took seats across from each other on couches on two side of an antique coffee table. Each observed the other from a moment before Detective broke the silence.

"May I so boldly ask the reason for the secrecy of the matter," requested the young boy.

"Well," she smiled. "The reason would be that if many people become aware of what I am about to show, then chaos will surely follow." She answered with that unfaltering smile.

"I see," muttered the detective. "Why is that I can be aware of this matter then?"

"Mostly, for your knack at solving the bizarre occurrences that have recently plagued the land," Miss Line replied. "I supposed I should just tell you the reason soon," she stated slyly, seeing the anxious look deep in Detective's eyes.

Walking up to a door, she opened it slowly and pulled out an object, which she quickly hid behind her back.

"Close your eyes and hold out your hands," she smiled once again.

Detective obeyed the strange lady's command and felt something soft in his outstretched hands.

"Go ahead and take a look."

May Day!!!

Today is May 1st, or May Day!! I have no clue what that means, thus, I look to my trusty sidekick, Wikipedia. Despite its reputation for being not entirely accurate all the time, most of its articles have some truth to them. Back to the topic. According to Wikipedia, and other sources, many holidays occur on May 1st. For example, many traditional festivals are held on May Day in Europe. However, the May Day celebration that I curious about this year is International Labor Day.

International Labor Day on May 1st originates with the United States labor movement in late 1800s. So why May 1st? On May 1st, 1886, headed by socialists, anarchists, and others in organized labor movements, unions went on strike to demand that the standard workday be shortened to eight hours. On May 4th, rioting broke out in Chicago's Haymarket Square including a bomb that injured several people. In the end, the protests proved to be successful and the workday is shortened to eight hours.

Today, many countries around the world choose May Day to commemorate the efforts won by workers and designate May 1st as International Labor Day. Curiously, the United States celebrates Labor Day in September even though the original worker's rallies took place in the US. How odd...

Case #3b: A Bottle of Acetaminophen

Dear Assistant (meaning you, Yun),

I will be away for most of the on business and will be back late. During the time that I am gone, please keep the agency tidy and tell any client who visits to leave a request. I will see to them when I return.

Sincerely,

Detective

Case #1b: Aww...Cute Bear

Snapping close the silver pocket watch, Detective left a note on his desk in the study. He pulled his coat tightly around himself and stepped out the front door. Cold air greeted him along with the sight of a spacious black vehicle as he left the comfort of Detective Agency.

“Greetings Sir. Master Line is waiting,” an old man standing in front of the vehicle stated politely. He held open the back door and stepped to the side. “If you please, Master Detective,” he requested.

Case #3a: A Bottle of Acetaminophen

Wrapped in a blanket, Miss Mie opened her journal and laid her fountain pen to a fresh page.

As I am getting over my first cold in a year, I feel that I should talk a little about the wonderful medicine that helped me through this unpleasant experience. Picking up my cold medicine, I noticed that the substance known as acetaminophen was at the top of the list of ingredients on both brand of cold remedies. But just what is acetaminophen? Sometimes I feel that when we look at the side of the box to see what we are ingesting, we only saw the name of the ingredient without actually knowing what it does. Wait a second. I think I know the perfect person for this job.
Closing her journal, the young lady got up from her seat and flipped through a messy stack of papers in a bin. Suddenly, a smile lit up on her face as she pulled out a piece of old newspaper. Miss Mie cut out the bottom part of that page and decided to make a cup of hot chocolate before heading out.

As she left the room, a snowy white cat padded into the room. The cat stealthily jumped onto the table Miss Mie left moments ago and quietly sat there, which looked almost as if it were studying the old newspaper. In a bold headline, The Sentoral read "Genius Boy Detective Uncovers Mystery!"

Chocopie

Photograph courtesy of Wikipedia

When I looked in the snack/ramen box in the kitchen recently, I noticed that I am down to my last Choco Pie. Suddenly, sadness and longing washed over me because Saturday, the day that I do my grocery shopping, was still days away.

Ah, Choco Pie, why are you so delicious? Is it because of your chocolaty outer covering? Or is it your soft marshmallow filling between two layers of cake-like cookies? I think it is the whole package; the perfect blend of all three ingredients that generate the most wonderful snacking experience.

Ah, Choco Pie, I cannot wait until I can eat you again, which will be soon (but not soon enough). I also cannot wait to share you with my dear colleagues, who are working hard in the summer heat (even though it is not quite summer yet).

I sincerely thank Orion Confectionery, the maker of Choco Pie, for all the wonderful deliciousness given to the world. Choco Pie can now be found in many countries outside of its native home in South Korea. So no matter where one resides, Choco Pie will never be far away.

Have a Fantastical Birthday!

On April 2nd, Hans Christian Andersen celebrated his birthday (from beyond the grave). This famous children's author from Denmark presented the world with stories such as "The Ugly Duckling," "The Little Mermaid," "The Red Shoes," and "The Little Match Girl." His stories were translated into many languages and delighted children across the globe.

However, after reading many of Andersen's stories, I found myself wondering whether these stories were truly written for children. Maybe the standards were different in Andersen's time, but as someone who grew up in recent times, I found these stories depressing and scary.

Some examples:
  1. The little match girl died of hunger and cold in the snow.
  2. The mermaid princess did not get to be with her prince. She turned into foam and disappeared (essentially, she died too).
  3. The little girl in "The Red Shoes" had her feet chopped off because the red shoes she was wearing would not stop dancing. The shoes, along with her feet, kept dancing into the woods.
  4. The fir tree that strived to become a Christmas tree eventually become a pile of waste and was burned to ashes.
In conclusion, these tales were sad and some were creepy (I don't think I ever want to wear red shoes). One bright side to Andersen's stories was that even though the poor characters die, they get to go to Heaven. Personally, I rather live. Well, where ever you are at now Mr. Andersen, have a fantastical birthday!

It's You

This is a cute song by the Korean boy band Super Junior. Previously, I posted about dance music and the post featured Super Junior's "Sorry, Sorry." While I am not a big fan of "Sorry, Sorry," I think I am a fan of the song "It's You." I also think that I am slowly becoming a fan of Super Junior (does liking one song by the group make me a fan?) after seeing a few Super Junior variety shows. No show can quite match the hilariousness of Korean comedian shows with subtitles.

Back to the point. "It's You" is a cute song (I never read the English translation just to keep things more fun) with a nice dance by Super Junior. But don't just believe what I say, see (and hear) for yourself.

Case #2a: Mad as a Hat

Lightly sipping at the faintly fragranced drink, Detective looked over the delicate envelope in the attic, where he stored old case files and research materials. With a slightly troubled look, he picked at the envelope, revealing a hidden compartment inside the pocket. He carefully took out a folded note from the secret compartment and read over the request. In the same neat writing as on the letter contained a second request from Miss Line.

Ah, Spring

Spring is here in the northern hemisphere. A time of growth and play, no wonder many people look forward to spring. One spring activity that has popped into my head is to plan a trip for this spring without actually going on that trip. Fun? Well, as fun as it can be without actually having to travel long distance since my imaginary, planned trip is to see spring in Japan. Know for its beautiful sakura (cherry blossoms), what better time is there to see Japan than in spring, when the flowers are in full bloom. Regretfully, March and April are not the best months for me to travel due to other responsibilities. Luckily, there exists the Internet, where I can see pictures of those lovely petals in the comfort of my home. Here are some of my favorite pictures of sakura.

Who Enjoys Long Distance Traveling?

Photographs courtesy of Wikipedia

I do enjoy long distance traveling, but only when the destination is somewhere that I want to go. For example, this summer I may want to travel to China, Japan, or Korea (actually that sounds like a pretty good idea). After choosing my destination, I have to book a flight, which is always a fun process to compare prices in the thousands range. So I conduct some research on different flight to these three countries. Personally I think the following are some of the best flights to take.
What I look for when purchasing tickets:
  1. Nonstop flight. This is my preferred type of flight even if I have to sit in the same plane for an extended period of time. It just makes thing simpler, and the fact that I can sleep reasonably well on planes helps a lot.
  2. Low price. I think everybody looks for the lowest price possible.
  3. Previous experience. I like to airlines that I have traveled with before. I think that gives me the illusion of safety because I lived through their flight before so I assumed I would still be alive after I travel with them again.
Flights that I am considering for my "trip":
  1. Destination: Beijing, China. Airline: Air China. Price: $1477 (nonstop, round trip). Duration: 13hrs 30min (pretty standard).
  2. Destination: Tokyo, Japan. Airline: Japan Airlines (since the flight is to Japan I thought I go with a Japanese airline). Price: $1629 (a little pricier that other airlines but not by much for already spending over a thousand dollars). Duration: 14hrs.
  3. Destination: Seoul, South Korea. Airline: Korean Air. Price: $1869 (other airlines charge about the same price). Duration: 14hrs (apparently it takes the same amount of to fly to Tokyo as to Seoul, interesting).

Good Dance Music

For some reason, I feel inspired to seek out a good dance song that does not necessarily has to be good. Thus, I have been stumbling around YouTube looking for Asian music videos with choreographed dance routines. There are many of them. One group that I encountered is called Super Junior, and this group should be familiar to fans of Asian culture. Apparently this South Korean boy band is immensely popular throughout Asia. I don't know how I feel about Super Junior. So far I only come across one song that I like, but it is not the song that I am putting on this post because it is not that "dancy." The song that I am going to share today is called "Sorry, Sorry" and I am very curious to see what people think about it.

Looking at the neatly written request, Detective frowned slightly in annoyance. He finished the last of his tea and walked up the staircase slowly to the study. Judging from the amount of noise emitting from beyond the door, Yun apparently had not finished his rambling. Sitting down in his chair, the boy detective arrived just in time for Yun’s dramatic pose that always wraps up his speech.

“…and so, that is how I, the great warrior of Hua, arrived at Sentoral!” exclaimed Yun, looking at Detective expectantly. “Well?”

Light?

What is light? In physics class, light is electromagnetic radiation of various wavelengths and travels at a speed of about 300,000,000 m/sec. Light exhibits both wave and particle properties, which is unique. I t is defined in the dictionary as "something that makes thing visible or affords illumination."

Just recently, I have discovered a new side of light, but not in the scientific sense. I have discovered "Hikari," which means light in Japanese. This "light" is in the form of a song that is both lovely and sad. "Hikari" by Elisa serves as the ending theme to the anime Nabari no Ou, which seems like a normal ninja story on the surface. However, hidden (nabari means "hidden" in Japanese) beneath that story of fighting ninjas and secret techniques is an emotional story (my personal opinion) about people and their inner struggles; "Hikari" just brings out that hidden aspect of Nabari no Ou perfectly.

As a side note, I really like the hat that Yoite (the kid pictured in the video) always wears.

Case #0b: Introduction

An introduction to life at Detective Agency, run by the boy detective named Detective.

On the ides of March, clouds covered the sky above Detective Agency (DA). In the comfy armchair that sat on the second floor of the DA building reclined Detective, a boy of more than thirteen years old. He had a thoughtful expression on his face, one that seemed too old and mature for a boy his age. However, this would be normal for anyone who knew him since sitting in that oversized armchair with just his thoughts keeping him company had long been a tradition of Detective, until now. Suddenly, the second floor where the armchair sat flooded with light and bursting in after the light was a young man of about seventeen years old.

"Good afternoon!" the young man greeted cheerfully and loudly in his native language. Upon seeing the boy’s annoyed expression, the young man broke into a wide smile. “Aww, have I woke Mr. Detective from his nap?”

“As a matter of fact, you did, Assistant Yun,” the boy detective addressed coolly. “Do you have my next case?” Detective inquired as a part of his new routine ever since his rookie “assistant” dropped by the agency out of the blue.

Yun let out a weary sigh, “It’s Bodyguard Yun.” He cleared his throat and begun his well-practiced speech. “The famous security expert all the way from across the desert, over the mountains, and pass thousands of wild beasts and raiders to come to protect the famous boy detective of Sentoral. For I am the greatest of all bodyguards in the land of Hua, Yun!” He continued his rant as Detective strolled over to the cabinet and left with a cup of tea.

As Yun’s voice slowly faded into the background, the young boy walked down the stairs to check the case drop-off box with his cup of refreshment, only somewhat wondering when the performer upstairs will notice that the audience had already left.

Case #0a: Basic Needs

Every detective needs three things:
  1. Mystery tool-kit
  2. Trusty/strange sidekick/assistant/bodyguard
  3. Official logo of the agency
For the beloved, but always mysterious, Detective, the three necessary items are invented and sketched out. The character profile of Detective is also completed in order to offer some insight into the mystery-solver's mind.

Cases of an Investigator

Have you ever wondered...well, about anything? I find myself thinking about so many things throughout the day that I sometimes have trouble keeping track of them all. Then I feel sad when I cannot recall something that I, at one point in time, want the answer to or wish to know more about. However, that will no longer be the case because I have found the perfect solution to my failing memory. I am going to keep track of my random wondering in the form of posts on this blog! And I shall dub these investigative posts as “Cases.” These top-secret files (not actually top-secret since I’m publishing them on a public blog, but “top-secret” sounds cool and I rarely get a chance to use the phrase) will be assigned a case number, for easy referencing, and a descriptive (possibly coded) title, for easy understanding purposes. I think I have finally discovered the useful nature of blogs – they can aid me with my dream of being a detective (I don’t even have to be a great one, I just secretly wish to be one from time to time)! To add mysteriousness to these cases, I will not be the one to solve them; rather, Detective, who is a great detective, will investigate my wonderings (of course I will actually do the research because Detective is not a real person).

Now, according to me, every good investigator needs three things: a mystery tool-kit, a sidekick, and a logo. Thus, I shall initiate my grand plans by drawing Detective, some cool gadgets for his/her (I have not decided yet, I shall go flip a coin) tool-kit, a sidekick, and a logo. Let the wondering begin!

Live-action or Animated?

Photograph and picture courtesy of www.cwtv.com (right Supernatural) and http://blog.funimation.com/ (left Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

I like parallels, whether they are in the math or in reality. Two lines in a plane that do not intersect or meet...that just fascinates me. They just travel on their own paths, so close and similar to each other but never meeting. It is almost sad.

On a lighter note (depends on how one looks at it), the infinite amount of parallels between two of my favorite TV shows is like a gift from the heavens. The similarities between these two shows are almost uncanny. One is an American supernatural drama appropriately called Supernatural, and the other is a Japanese adventure anime titled Fullmetal Alchemist. The first uncanny similarity is that they are both brilliant shows (personal opinion at work here). For more concrete similarties, click here.
